About Robert Young Antiques

Robert Young Antiques was established by partners Robert and Josyane Young in 1978 and are still in their original Battersea premises, which have subsequently been enlarged and updated.

The partnership specialise in original Folk and naive art alongside individual and selected pieces of vernacular furniture and domestic wooden objects. Exhibits generally date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and are of British or European origin. There is a quirky originality to the purest examples of naive and Folk Art that Robert and Josyane greatly admire and look for in each piece they select.

Robert Young trained at Sotheby’s in the early 1970s and Josyane studied at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, after graduating from Amiens University, prior to meeting Robert and creating the partnership. Their stylish showroom is located immediately opposite the new Royal College of Art on the south bank of the River Thames, in Battersea Bridge Road and has become London’s leading specialist Folk Art gallery.

Robert wrote “Folk Art”, (published by Mitchell Beazley in 1999) and co-wrote “Treen for the Table (published by The Antique Collector’s Club in 1998). He has also written articles on related subjects for various publications and periodicals including Antique Collecting, The Antique Collector, BBC Homes and Antiques, The World of Interiors and Country Living magazine and has served as a specialist consultant for the Millers Antique Guides.

He is overall Co-Chair of Vetting at the New York Winter Antiques Show, Chairman of the Folk Art, Oak and Country Furniture Committee at Masterpiece London and Chairman of the Folk Art and Painted Furniture Committee at the Olympia International Antiques Fair. Both partners have served on specialist committees at the San Francisco Fall Antiques Show, the Chelsea and Decorative fairs in London and the Antiques for Everyone fairs in Birmingham.

Elected to BADA membership for Primitive, naïve and folk art; vernacular furniture and treen.
