About MacConnal-Mason Gallery

The MacConnal-Mason family have been established as art dealers for over one hundred and 15 years and the current gallery is run by David L Mason, OBE and his son, David M Mason.

The gallery sells a wide range of art including 19th- and 20th-century works by Dutch, Scandinavian, British and Post Impressionist artists. Genres represented include still life, city scenes, figures, landscapes and marine and sporting works. Sculpture is also a feature of their wide-ranging stock.

The family involvement began in 1893 when David L Mason’s great uncle Rayner MacConnal formed a partnership with Archibald Phillips, and founded a company called Phillips & MacConnal. The head office was in the Burlington Arcade, London with a branch in Bournemouth and The Art Gallery at the Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire. They later went on to open a branch in Castle Street, Liverpool.

Expansion into Old Bond Street and Harrogate took place between the wars and after the war Leslie MacConnal-Mason acquired a lease in Duke Street, St. James’s from the renowned society hostess Rosa Lewis, who was the owner of the old Cavendish Hotel.

As the Cavendish Hotel was to be pulled down in 1959 the gallery purchased the freehold of 14 Duke Street, St. James’s. In 1970 Leslie died and in 1995 the freehold of the gallery’s flagship building 17 Duke Street was acquired. Between them the two buildings comprise a spacious gallery space on eight floors.

Elected to BADA membership for 19th- and 20th-century British and European oil paintings, watercolours, bronzes and sculptures.
